"Cowboy Song"
Yesterday, she called to me,
Turn back time and come and see,
The cowboy way things used to be,
How could I not agree.
So I looked back as far I could,
To horses wild ‘neath saddle wood,
With cowhands fanning like they should,
Wild adventure sure for me.
The cattle by the thousands came,
The cowboys, too, with ne’er a name,
And once you see can’t be the same,
A slice of history.
I thought myself to them I’m kin,
Those horseback boys from way back when,
They nodded, rode with whoop and grin,
And tipped their hats to me.
And then I woke as from a dream,
It was so real or so it seemed,
One final flash a concho gleam,
And then they all were gone.
I rose and saddled, went my way,
Along well-traveled trails I’d say,
But never far from yesterday,
I sing a cowboy song.
“Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:19, NAS)
Human beings have always made up songs about the things that matter to them. The same is true when it comes to the spiritual. When we are filled with the Spirit Paul says our communication will be characterized by songs of praise. We will always be giving thanks for both past, present and future blessings. No one else on earth really wants to praise the Lord. But for those who are Spirit-filled it is a lifestyle.
Lord, teach us to live thankfully, in Jesus’ name.
