"Peer"
Never doubt the pow’r of peer,
And let me make it very clear,
Your success, what you hold dear,
Depends upon the friends,
You allow to counsel you,
Guide with what they say is true,
Influence what you say and do,
So much on this depends.
Yes, it is your choice to make,
But beware the place they take,
Are they real or are they fake,
You’ll find out soon enough.
And if the wisdom that they share,
Shows you that they really care,
And if the Lord will bless you there,
Then that’s the real good stuff.
But don’t cave in if they are wrong,
And those with whom you don’t belong,
Run from their old siren song,
It’s fine to move away.
Let the Spirit be your guide,
And those with whom you can confide,
Know that God is by your side,
And you will be okay.
“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’” (1 Corinthians 15:33, NAS)
Paul gives this counsel to Christian believers. Sometimes we grow careless with our friendships, and think they are harmless. Yes, we are called to love everyone and find common ground with unbelievers so as to win them to Christ. But in the process we must use wisdom. All too often the enemy sends someone along who will influence us in the wrong direction. In such an immoral and promiscuous culture, we need to stay alert, and develop strong relationships of support and accountability.
Lord, help us walk morally with good company, in Jesus’ name.
