"Dumbed Down"
There’s something I’ve observed, it’s true,
When folks excuse the wrong they do,
Their rationale is faulty, too,
And chaos takes control.
It seems that sin will dumb you down,
And your thinking goes unsound,
Sanity cannot be found,
And puts at risk your soul.
Logic here will not apply,
Frustrated are all those who try,
And that’s because of satan’s lie,
That always leads astray.
Irrational as it can be,
To refuse to clearly see,
That with the Lord we should agree,
And in His will to stay.
Without His light to fill our minds,
Ignorance is all we’ll find,
And at the risk of words unkind,
We cannot see a thing.
The god of this world blinding minds,
All intellect he strongly binds,
The truth is lost, one rarely finds,
Till light the Spirit brings.
“Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who do. not believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of God’s Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4, NLT)
We want to be careful not to give the devil too much credit. But Paul says he has the power to blind people’s minds. He is a liar, a deceiver and a word-stealer. When people go down that path they often become deeply irrational in their moral behavior. One need only analyze those in the throes of addiction to see it. Everyone knows they are in trouble except them. Why can’t they see it? It’s because they are blinded by the enemy and need God’s light to heal them. The good news is that He can and will as soon as they begin to cooperate with Him. The truth liberates!
Lord, restore our sanity and deliver us from deception, in Jesus’ name.
