"Fight"

I”m a simple man doing what I can,

To keep on living right,

But seems to me what’s wrong you see,

Puts up a steady fight.

And as I look into the Book,

That guides my daily walk,

It warns of one, whose lying tongue,

Ensnares folks round the clock.

To dull us down and try to drown,

What God gives us to say,

In Jesus’ name and for His fame,

We resist him everyday.

Greater is He inside of me,

Than the spirit of the dark,

With faith our shield we then can build,

A spiritual bulwark.

To help the weak and always seek,

The Kingdom above all,

Defend the right, walk in the light,

And evil men forestall.

Don’t be naive, but glad receive,

The power of God’s Spirit,

As we begin to see the end,

And each day moves us near it.

When every son will end this run,

And every tongue confess,

Jesus wins and none pretends,

He’s better than the Best.

The devil gone and all that’s wrong,

Destroyed and over-ruled,

Till then we fight, we’re sons of light,

And by God’s Spirit schooled.

“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” (1 John 4:4, NLT)

John is speaking about people who deny the truth about Jesus and are possessed with the spirit of antichrist. He says that the Holy Spirit within us is greater than the spirit of antichrist afoot in this world. This was true when he wrote it long ago and even more true today since we are closer to the coming of Christ than ever. The Bible indicates that as the time of Christ’s return gets closer the battle with the spirits of darkness will intensify. But we have nothing to fear! Why? Because in the name of Jesus and the power of the Spirit we will prevail. Soldier on, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, help us resist the devil, in Jesus’ name.
