"Free"
Can there be a better reason,
To give the Good Lord thanks,
Than for the gift of freedom,
At the top it up there ranks.
To live in a free nation,
Life and liberty for all,
The free pursuit of happiness,
And in God we trust and call,
On Him to make us worthy,
Of the blessings He bestows,
And be good to one another,
As His grace through us flows.
And for that deeper freedom,
We are careful to give praise,
It’s all because of Jesus,
Salvation’s flag we raise.
We say when the Spirit,
Has truly set one free,
He lifts our every burden,
Just trust Him and you’ll see.
The freedom of the nation,
And forgiveness for each one,
Prompts a great ovation,
To the glory of the Son.
The truth that Jesus spoke of,
Is the truth that sets men free,
And with the Holy Spirit,
Gives us what our lives should be.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3:18, NAS)
Many recognize the Father and the Son as Lord, but ignore the Holy Spirit. But Paul affirms the the Spirit, too, is Lord, and when He brings God’s presence and power into our lives, He brings liberty. What a wonderful reality to celebrate! The great God has come to indwell us, and will break every bondage, heal every hurt and drive out every remnant of darkness. God has destined us to be carefree. Not careless and certainly careful when we need to be. But ultimately to be free of worry, anxiety, and fear in all its forms. That is abundant life, and true freedom.
Lord, set us free by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
