"Free"
Here’s the reason you should stand,
And remove that cowboy hat,
Over your heart place your hand,
And face the flag, all that.
‘Cause it’s to show you give respect,
To what Old Glory means,
It’s only right that we expect,
To honor freedom’s dreams.
And when we all are standing there,
And our anthem then is sung,
It brings a tear to me I swear,
And freedom’s bell is rung.
I see people burn the flag,
In protest of some wrong,
Treat it worse than any rag,
Is this where they belong?
To me that’s saying those who died,
To keep our people free,
Don’t matter much, and all they tried,
Is minimized you see.
And, yes, we love the Lord above,
Far beyond the rest,
But believe that in His love,
America is blessed.
And we should be a blessing,
To this whole world, you see,
With God’s help addressing,
How to set all captives free.
Remembering the promise,
Made by God’s own Son,
Don’t be a doubting Thomas,
For real freedom He’s the One.
And so the flag’s a symbol,
Of all that makes men free,
In its shadow we should tremble,
And pledge our loyalty.
And the freedom of salvation,
Comes from knowing Jesus Christ,
And with joyous celebration,
Honor all His sacrifice.
“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36, NAS)
As wonderful as our political freedom is in America, the only authentic personal freedom is found in Jesus Christ. Sadly, though we are fhe free-est people on earth we lack genuine freedom until we know Jesus. He has promised to make us free indeed. When He made this statement the religious leaders were offended. They did not need His freedom, they thought, because they were not slaves. Jesus pointed out that they were slaves to sin. Jesus died and was raised to set the captive free. His freedom is the best.
Lord, help us to let You set us free indeed, in Jesus’ name.
