"Get Gone"

Sometimes as we’re going,

Even if we have been sent,

We’re wondering, not knowing,

Just why we even went.

‘Specially when we get there,

And think why am I here,

The place I’m in is nowhere,

And does not appear,

To be a destination,

Just a stop along the way,

But causes consternation,

And all I have to say,

Is get the heck on out of there,

And never once look back,

Bad vibes weigh you down with care,

And takes you way off track.

Jesus said remember,

That very sad old case,

You really can’t defend her,

When from Sodom made her chase.

But then she stopped and turned around,

To have just one last look,

When she was told get out of town,

It’s right there in the Book.

But big mistake when she looked back,

And turned to salt and ash,

The judgment brought divine attack,

Their sinful party crash.

The unsafe place is still out there,

It’s best to get away,

The Good Lord lets you know just where,

So don’t you dare to stay.

Just get gone and don’t look back,

You’ll be so glad you did,

Leave all behind and true to fact,

All compromise get rid.

“Remember what happened to Lot’s wife! If you cling to your life you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.” (Luke 17:32-33, NLT)

The reminder from Jesus is a stark one. Speaking of the last days Jesus compared them to the time of Sodom when it was business as usual right up until the city was destroyed, and sadly Lot’s wife along with it. Clinging to what God will ultimately judge is not how we want to be. Rather we should let go and surrender our lives to Jesus. He alone is salvation, protection and life.

Lord, help us never look back, in Jesus’ name.
