"Getting Low"
To get things right in the Good Lord’s sight,
We have to get real low,
‘Cause attitude gives altitude,
As all true Christians know.
Pride He’ll resist, and then insist,
Humility’s the way,
That triggers grace and shows God’s face,
God’s promise any day.
On that last week before the peak,
Of what Jesus came to do,
Got on His knees, and if you please,
Washed their feet, it’s true.
Then He asked, there at the last,
Do you know what I have done?
There was no doubt, it was about,
What counts in the long run.
Humility, led Him, you see,
To die there on the cross,
To take our place and give us grace,
And restore all our loss.
And then the fame of Jesus’ name,
So all would e’er confess,
Christ is Lord and praises soared,
From all He died to bless.
The Father’s smile after the trial,
Of paying all the price,
It had to be, worth it you see,
The greatest sacrifice.
And exalted to, the heights it’s true,
Says worthy is the Lamb,
Divine access, our lives to bless,
The pleasure of I am.
“Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names.” (Philippians 2:9, NLT)
Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on the cross. He despised the shame but looked past it the joy of what it would buy. His humility, shown when He washed their feet, pointed to the greatest humility of all- Jesus’ death for our sins. Raised and ascended, He was exalted to the highest place which will be ultimately recognized by every knee and tongue. Have this attitude, Paul said. And so we should.
Lord, help us get low, in Jesus’ name.
