"Good Old Boys"

The good old boys are still out there,

A-doin’ what they do,

It’s not as if the whole world cares,

But why I’m tellin’ you.

That what I mean, it’s good to know,

When so many lose their way,

There are men, they’re few although,

That will do just what they say.

Close to the land a-horseback go,

Their livin’ toil to make,

In lonely places few will know,

Of livestock care they take.

Simple morals, right and wrong,

A reverence, too, for God,

Closely kin to history long,

And life lived with the sod.

And not with tech and all its games,

The fast-paced run to greed,

Hatred spewed by many names,

Where satan takes the lead.

But these old boys know what to do,

Recall best how to live,

Rejecting all that is not true,

And their example give.

Folks trapped in cities cold and mean,

Their generations churn,

Forgetting all that’s right and clean,

And seem too blind to learn.

What will save them, do you know,

Is there any hope,

The need is great and desperate so,

It’s time to throw that rope.

Perhaps the cowboys are the ones,

God calls His truth to tell,

The grace to offer from His sons,

To save this world from hell.

Maybe they ride through satan’s gates,

To set the captive free,

And tell them Jesus liberates,

And it’s not too late, you see.

I pray it’s so, and so should you,

If you have hope at all,

Freedom comes from what is true,

If on His name they call.

“But how can they all on Him to save the unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in HIm if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him. unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:14, NLT)

It’s a rhetorical question but no less profound! In God’s great plan we are called to partner with Him to save the world. We are His advertisement and instrument to let people know the truth that alone will set them free. Every believer is called to be a missionary, and cast as wide a net as possible. It is our example, testimony and willingness to speak the truth in love that ultimately will set the captive free. Let us get on with it.

Lord, use us to let the people know, in Jesus’ name.
