"Great-Grandma"
She was drivin’ Grandpa’s tractor,
When the outlaws fast attacked her,
And she pulled a forty-five from ‘neath the seat.
The first two soon she drilled ‘em,
And no doubt she killed ‘em,
Winged a third when he made his retreat.
She was a rancher’s daughter,
And many men had sought her,
But most she didn’t give the time of day.
Waited for the Lord’s best,
And though it posed a real test,
She listened to the Lord when she would pray.
You’ll know him when you see him,
Most could never be him,
Because he is a man who’s Spirit-filled.
And sure he’ll be a cowboy,
But gets his strength from God’s joy,
Won’t give a care about the men you killed.
He rode into the wagon yard,
Looked like he’d been ridin’ hard,
Stepped down and gave his horse a needed drink.
They asked him in for dinner,
She knew he was the winner,
Least that’s all that she could ever think.
They were married two months later,
The love they shared was greater,
Than either one had ever known before.
He was a godly leader,
A consistent Kingdom seeder,
The man whom she has always waited for.
Many years ago this story,
With all its gore and glory,
Happened and is handed down through time.
When Great-Grandma killed the outlaws,
It never gave her mind pause,
Then waited for the man God sent sublime.
And the life they made together,
With God’s love as a tether,
Was a blessing to the generations long.
The moral of the story,
Is God gets all the glory,
When we wait and trust the Lord to keep us strong.
“I would have lost heart, unless I believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.” (Psalm 27:13-14, NKJV)
Sometimes we are tempted to be discouraged if God’s promise to us feels as if it is delayed. But God is always on time. Waiting does mean we are passive about what needs to be done. While we are waiting for God’s best there is plenty for us to do in obedience to His will. But the point is that we continue to trust in what God had said no matter the schedule. He will strengthen us, keep us focused, and ultimately do everything He has promised. Count on it, in Jesus’. name.
Lord, teach us to wait, in Jesus’ name.
