"Hero"

In every good story,

A villain so bad,

A hero to fight him,

For a maiden so sad.

In need of a champion,

Who’s courageous and strong,

To deal with the threat,

From all that’s gone wrong.

And with the best stories,

The fight is intense,

And no one is certain,

Of a just recompense,

For the meanness and cruelty,

And the danger that comes,

When the darkness is desperate,

And the weak all succumb,

And the good guys are cornered,

And the ambush is on,

And the cowards are running,

And the battle gets long,

That’s when a David,

Runs into the fray,

Or some lonely Gideon,

Holds evil at bay,

Or a Samson or Samuel,

Or Peter or Paul,

Or Jesus Himself,

The greatest hero of all.

To say to the killer,

The liar and thief,

The line is drawn here,

I’m bringing relief,

To all of your methods,

And all your deceit,

All your attacks,

I’m here to defeat.

So depend on the hero,

The Good Lord will send,

And don’t let the devil,

Scare you, my friend.

‘Cause we have the victory,

Because of the blood,

And the strong name of Jesus,

Can stop that dark flood,

Of demons and monsters,

And all their attack,

‘Cause with the Lord’s armor,

They have to step back.

And when the smoke clears,

And the battle is done,

We will see clearly,

That Jesus has won.

When every knees bows,

And His name all confess,

To the glory of God,

Who will clean up this mess.

In the ultimate story,

The last enemy goes,

And that’s death itself,

And everyone knows,

That the Lord and His Kingdom,

Are ruling supreme,

Evil is vanquished,

And God’s glory will stream.

“For Christ must reign until He humbles all His enemies beneath His feet. And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.” (1 Corinthians 15:25-26, NLT)

We are intimately involved in the conflict of the ages. The ongoing war between good and evil is won because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. But the battles ensue until every enemy is brought into submission to the authority of Jesus Christ. Then, when Jesus returns in triumph, death itself will be conquered forever. We are part of this entire story and will one day enjoy the eternal benefit of following our hero, Jesus, into battle. Every sacrifice and struggle will be worth it when all confess Jesus as Lord.

Lord, help us fight faithfully in the battle for the souls of mankind, in Jesus’ name.
