"Heroes"

Blood and treasure are the measure,

Of the sacrifice that’s made,

Never whether the endeavor,

Made you go or if you stayed.

Not location but vocation,

In the thing that must be done,

And the filling of the willing,

With the strength to make their run.

No excuses, fight reduces,

Those who stand and pay the price,

But their reasons through the seasons,

Show their faith soon will suffice,

‘Cause they’re ready ever steady,

When the testing day arrives,

It’s semper fi and do or die,

That’s the credo of their lives.

Heroes rising and apprising,

What some said can’t be done,

But they saddle for the battle,

Seek permission from no one.

For that hour when the power,

Of their courage shows to all,

They’re the brothers, like no others,

Who will answer heaven’s call.

“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. Do everything in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13, NLT)

Heroes are needed. The good news is that God is still in the business of raising them up to fight the battles at hand and do what needs to be done. I am thankful I was raised by a man who went to war to save the world from fascism. His sacrifices, though not obvious to me as a child, deeply impacted my upbringing. I have not been asked to serve the same way, but the principles of surrender, courage, and faithfulness apply to all of us. Someone has said God is not looking for ability but rather availability. It is amazing the difference one person can make when they become a willing instrument in the hands of the Lord.

Lord, use us, in Jesus’ name.
