"His Herd"

Flyin’ fur and whoop and spur,

And off we go again,

The cattle hunt and know up front,

It could get western, friend.

We try to go real quiet and slow,

But sometimes things get loud,

The wild bovine, you know the kind,

With insanity endowed,

Can call your bet,  your goat they’ll get,

And put you to the test,

Wear out your mount, defy your count,

Exhaust your very best.

When time to rope you have the hope,

That all goes smooth with ease,

Sometimes a wreck you don’t expect,

Will all your patience squeeze.

But stories told while smiles unfold,

‘Bout when things went awry,

When ponies bucked their riders shucked,

Or some bull outran our try.

I have to say the cowboy way,

Reminds me of the times,

When the stories turn from hearts that burn,

With reason, rope and rhymes,

With joy relate, throw wide the gate,

That opens straight to Him,

Who made it all and gives His call,

To those whose hopes are diim.

And like a gather we would rather,

Bring all the wild ones in,

Than let ‘em go to hell you know,

And lost because of sin.

Tell it all and never stall,

When sharing how it is,

The Lord will bless, He’ll do the rest,

‘Cause all of them are His.

“But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:14, NLT)

Stories, cowboy or otherwise, are powerful because they relay the personal experience of those who experienced the adventure. This has a strong spiritual application because our testimony is needed to point others to Jesus. They may have heard about Him but they have not heard what He did for us personally unless we tell them. And there is actually nothing more powerful that we can share!

Lord, help us share our stories, in Jesus’ name.
