"Honey"
I jumped for my stirrup,
And I sorely missed,
That bronc came untrained,
The gravel I kissed.
I renamed my pony,
Right then and there,
But I can’t repeat it,
In church anywhere.
And the reason for hurry,
With my jump and mis-swing,
I was being chased,
By some honey bees’ sting.
Who were hot on my trail,
After I robbed the hive,
When I look back on it,
I’m just glad I’m alive.
The bees stung my bucker,
And three times stung me,
I dropped the honey,
When at last finally,
I got in the saddle,
And long trotted away,
The bees lost their interest,
That’s all I can say.
I’m sure there’s a lesson,
In this story somehow,
More than one comes to mind,
When I remember it now.
Don’t be in such a hurry,
That’s a hard one to learn,
A moderate pace,
With time left to burn,
Is usually better,
Than frantic, you see,
Even running from bees,
It’s the best, probably.
Take one extra moment,
That stirrup to fix,
And smoothly step on,
You ain’t no Tom Mix.
And one lesson more,
I’m sure that it’s right,
Get a grip on your honey,
And hold her real tight.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV)
If we trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him in all that we do, the odds go up that our pace will match His. He then can slow us down or speed us up, course-correct us if necessary, or tell us to wait altogether. The point is that He will direct our paths, and that direction makes all the difference. Don’t lead yourself or blindly follow any other. Follow Jesus and you can count on His guidance.
Lord, help us follow Your leadership, in Jesus’ name.
