"Horses"

I love to ride the horses,

I love to watch ‘em run,

I love to see them stretched out,

Sleeping in the sun.

I love their velvet noses,

I love their gentle eye,

I love their flowing mane and tail,

I love the way they try.

I love to see a draft horse,

Pulling heavy loads,

I love to see a buggy horse,

Going down the roads.

I love to see race horses,

Love horses that will rein,

I love to watch a cutting horse,

Every trip the same.

I love to see those bucking broncs,

And mustangs wild and free.

I love the ones that no one wants,

Those that belong to me.

When practically a baby,

They set me up on one,

Never dreamed what that would do,

Could not get o’er the fun.

And when I can get horseback,

The blessing of it all,

Is getting close to Jesus,

When on Him I call.

Horseback with the Savior,

When He restores my soul,

His grace makes me feel better,

It never does get old.

“He restores my soul…” (Ps. 23:3)

Do you need your soul restored? Most of us could use some soul restoration. Winston Churchill said: “There is nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse.” Maybe that’s not true for everybody, but it is for me. Not that horses or anything else in God’s creation could take the place of the Creator HImself. Nothing can. Ever. But God has chosen to use places, people and things to encourage and help us feel better. And for some, it’s an equestrian blessing. For others it’s a quiet walk in the woods or the beach or the mountains or the desert. Whatever God uses to calm and refresh you, don’t isolate yourself from it. I know, we’re all busy. But when we take no time for soul restoration, we can only go so far before it begins to take it’s toll - emotionally, physically, and spiritually. When He restores, we will have all we need.

Lord, restore our souls, in Jesus’ name.
