"Waiting"
The Book tells us to wait on God,
And I have learned to wait,
Except when things just take too long,
And when God shows up late.
That’s when I get real anxious,
Pray loud in Jesus’ name,
And get friends in agreement,
So they can pray the same.
If we gang up on Jesus,
He will do our will,
We can claim the promises,
And He must fulfill.
You must know I’m kidding,
But every now and then,
It seems like we are praying,
Like we can tell God when,
He must bring the answer,
And exactly what we say,
Thank God He doesn’t do it,
It’s not the Spirit’s way.
Of all the things that Jesus said,
When they asked how to pray,
He said pray for the Father’s will,
And His Kingdom come today.
And sometimes we must learn to wait,
For God’s highest and His best,
He will give us what we need,
And teach us how to rest.
“Wait patiently for the Lord…” (Ps. 27:14, NLT)
Waiting is not something most of us are able to do well. We are geared to expect things to happen faster than ever. But fast is not always good. And this is especially true when it comes to spiritual things. Waiting teaches us to trust the Lord, even when it feels like He is late. He never is, neither is He early. He is always and forever on time. Not only is God on time, He always brings the right answer. And sometimes that’s not what we have asked for. Trusting God and waiting on Him means we learn to hear and accept His “no” at times. Can you accept no for an answer? Waiting means we are walking by faith, not sight. We can’t see the answer yet we trust Him to bring it when we need it most.
Lord, teach us to wait patiently on You, in Jesus’ name.
