"I Still Believe"

I’ve seen my share of hard times,

Suffered pain and loss,

Reaped results of all my crimes,

And failed the old coin toss.

But I still believe in Jesus,

And I still believe in prayer,

I feel the Holy Spirit,

And I know that He is there.

And, yes, some friends have failed me,

And, yes, loved ones have died,

The devil’s often trailed me,

That cannot be denied.

But the grace God sent to save me,

Is as sure as sure can be,

And that’s just what He gave me,

To see me through, you see.

So in spite of disappointments,

What folks did or didn’t do,

The Lord brought His anointment,

No doubt I know it’s true.

Some get disillusioned,

Plumb discouraged by it all,

But faith in God’s conclusions,

And adherence to His call,

Lifts us far above the battle’s fray,

And gives us what we need,

Based on what God has to say,

Our souls always to feed.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though the outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17, NKJV)

Faith helps us overcome hopelessness. It doesn’t mean everything always works out perfectly. In fact outwardly we’re perishing. But because of the inward renewal of the Holy Spirit’s power we are able to stay focused and keep on keeping on. The Spirit reminds us that what we’re going through is nothing compared to where we are going. It’s a good thing to remember.

Lord, renew us by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
