"Rodeo"

We’re all gettin’ ready,

For the Parker County show,

Comes along each year in June,

It’s our home town rodeo.

Pete Carr will bring the cattle,

And the Posse brings the fun,

The fans and all the sponsors,

Come to see the cowboys run.

It’s a street dance with good music,

It’s a cattle drive parade,

It’s a time when things get western,

With lots of memories made.

It’s bulls and horses buckin’,

It’s roping, racing, too,

It’s a clown in the arena,

Who’s telling jokes to you.

We gladly fly Old Glory,

Our Anthem will be sung,

We pray to God Almighty,

Give thanks for what He’s done.

So come and pull your boots on,

And join us one and all,

Out with the Sheriff’s Posse,

Where they still hear the cattle call.

‘This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Please, Lord, please save us. Please, Lord, please give us success.” (Psalm 118:24-25, NLT)

We all have special days we look forward to with great anticipation. It might be a birthday, holiday, or some special event like our rodeo. We plan and work for it all year, and then it’s just days away and the excitement grows. But the scriptures teach us that everyday is a gift from God and should be filled with celebration. We choose to rejoice and “be glad.” Obviously there are sad and tragic days, too. But in and through it all we depend upon the Lord to save us and give us success. Since God made each day we must choose not to waste it but steward it well.

Lord, help us receive every day as a gift from You, in Jesus’ name.
