"In Jesus' Name"

They hum and they howl,

They roar and they growl,

And they threaten to do lots of harm.

But we’re given, you see,

God’s authority,

And they should not ‘cause much alarm.

But rise to the fight,

Wear the armor of light,

Resisting them in Jesus’ name.

Make those devils leave,

Never give them reprieve,

To free us is why Jesus came.

Be strong in the Lord,

Use the Spirit’s sharp sword,

And never show any retreat.

He who is within,

Will give us the win,

And crush them right under our feet.

“But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3, NLT)

The war is won but there are still spiritual battles to fight. This is one of many promises regarding what we must take seriously. There seem to be two opposite attitudes to avoid in this regard. The first is to be simply oblivious and naive about the devil and his minions. Those who deny, ignore or minimize the reality of spiritual battle become victims of it. The other extreme is that some people blame everything on the devil, which ultimately gives him far too much credit. The biblical view is somewhere in between, and the Lord will show us the right place to stand when the need arises.

Lord, help us resist the devil, in Jesus’ name.
