"In the Bend"

The breeze blows from the river,

The sun is going down,

The chickens go to roosting,

And I listen to the sound,

As the crickets start their singing,

And the hoot owl joins right in,

The coyote starts a-yipping,

Horse nicker, night begins.

And I love it when the gloaming,

Of the day gets misty still,

Cattle moving ‘cross the pasture,

And typically they will,

Find a bedground for the evening,

And the sacred night comes on,

Shadows lengthen, light is fleeting,

And I’m thankful to be home.

An old tom turkey gobbles,

Deer like ghosts slide past,

Geese high above the river,

Flying, soaring oh so fast.

Deep in the heart of Texas,

On the Brazos where it bends,

Know we have the Good Lord’s blessing,

And so thankful that He sends,

The peace comes like a whisper,

And a gentle, light caress,

An escape from every sadness,

And a cure for every stress.

And the Spirit’s on the river,

And right here in our hearts,

And He brings us His freedom,

And we’re glad to do our parts,

When we praise Him for the sunset,

And the closing of the day,

The life He freely gives us,

And the grace that comes to stay.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV)

God wants us to experience His peace. This is especially true when we are tempted to be stressed out with worry. What is His answer? To pray and present all our concerns to God in prayer and also tp be thankful. He promises a peace that is greater than human understanding that will guard our hearts and minds. There is nothing like it and God will give it to us!

Lord, give us Your peace, in Jesus’ name.
