It was in the Ft. Worth paper,

An ad that read like this,

Registered gray gelding,

And the price too low to miss.

So I made the call and saw him,

That first ride gave me hope

Asked if the gal would meet me,

At the old Cow Bell to rope.

Backed into the roping box,

He tracked just like he should,

Roped the steer and turned him off,

And showed me that he could.

Wrote the check and took him home,

And rode him many years,

And have to say my memories,

Will sometimes bring a tear.

It’s not often that the ad you see,

Happens to be true,

No way that little ad could say,

What that gray horse could do.

The Good Book says we’re ads you know,

For the Savior up above,

The way we live and what we say,

Points others to His love.

We need to be as advertised,

And be just what we say,

Give the good and generously,

And do it everyday.

Because the Good Lord gave us,

More than we can count,

And we should pay it forward,

No matter the amount.

Give and do and say it,

And sow the righteous seed,

Somebody who can use our help,

And we can meet their need.

Unselfishly and generous,

The glory not to be,

For us to give us credit,

But all for Him you see.

The good life so much better,

Than what we had before,

The Spirit flows right through us,

Both now and more and more.

We gladly look for ways to help,

We look for ways to give,

And in the end the good life,

Is the way we want to live.

“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.” (1 Peter 2:12, NIV)

It’s got to be above average to silence your critics, but that’s exactly what God is calling us to do. With the Spirit’s power we can live our lives with maximum impact upon those who do not believe. Good deeds and a good testimony are what God will use, and our lives become an advertisement of what His grace can do. This is especially true if people know about your history before you came to the Lord. He uses everything to change their lives for His glory.

Lord, let our good deeds silence our critics, in Jesus’ name.
