"Old Breed"

He was of the old breed,

Of men who sowed the right seed,

And lived life by the old creed,

  Stood strongly for the Lord.

Protector of the young and weak,

Not afraid to stand and speak,

And Jesus’ Kingdom he will seek,

And wield the Spirit’s sword.

Some think he’s outdated,

And often under-rated,

His worth has been debated,

But he doesn’t give a care.

And that’s because he’s steady,

And by God’s grace made ready,

Delivered from the petty,

   And very much aware,

Of his divine assignment,

And spiritual alignment,

Through holy fire’s refinement,

   He’ll run into the fray.

A man with no confusion,

And even less illusion,

Until God’s last conclusion,

   On Jesus’ coming day.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33, NIV)

When Jesus counseled His disciples concerning worry, He pointed them toward the priority they should embrace above all others. To seek first the Kingdom of God directed their concerns in the right direction. Anything that worried or intimidated them was to be surrendered to His lordship, and by embracing God’s rule they would escape the bondage of fearfulness. Jesus said that when they sought God’s Kingdom above all else, God would then give them everything they needed. What a promise! Losing control is the only real security. Those who live this way become life-changers indeed.

Lord, help us seek the Kingdom of God above all else, in Jesus’ name.
