"Lead On"
We ride life on a winding path,
And faith shows us the way,
But they a fork appears ahead,
It could happen any day.
No question that we won’t turn back,
We’ve come too far you see,
But right or left or straight ahead,
Which path will it be.
That’s when we have to listen close,
The Spirit says He’ll lead,
His unseen presence is our guide,
With all the grace we need.
The sons of God are Spirit-led,
It tells us in the Book,
This is not some guessing game,
Since the Good Lord’s path we took.
And He will not forsake us now,
He comes and He will speak,
Plainly ‘bout the way to go,
But we must His will seek.
Speak, Lord, we are listening,
Let your peace constant rule,
Bout to Your highest and Your best,
And never play the fool.
And straight into Your perfect will,
Your purpose and Your plan,
We live each day to hear Your voice,
And know by grace we can.
Lead on, O King eternal,
Your voice is our bright light,
A lamp unto the traveler’s feet,
To always do what’s right.
“Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.” (Proverbs 4:25-27, NLT)
The Lord calls us to focus on His leadership. The sons of God, according to Paul, are led by the Spirit of God. Having the Spirit’s leadership is a great blessing because we are not left to our own best ideas about what to do. He will speak to us from Scripture, through people, through the circumstances, through creation, and by the still, small voice in our hearts. No question that it is a walk of faith, but this is not a guessing game. it really is being led by the Lord.
Lord, lead us by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
