"Legion"
He’ll never change, far too deranged,
And lost beyond repair,
His life he spent, ‘mongst graves he went,
And no one with him there.
Insane, you see, the blame to be,
The devil’s legion horde,
But Jesus came, called out their name,
They must obey the Lord.
They made their whine, into the swine,
Who drowned themselves unclean,
The man was healed, deliverance real,
From a life tormented mean.
He begged to go with Christ, you know,
But Jesus had a plan,
For him to tell about his hell,
At home to every man.
That’s what he did, how Jesus rid,
His life from satan’s grip,
In his right mind, and peace to find,
With God’s own fellowship.
And still we know that people go,
Through life in satan’s hold,
When Jesus died, was crucified,
For them with love enfold.
Rose again, the power then,
To set the captive free,
His life in us, and we can trust,
That it will always be.
“But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8, NLT)
The man in the poem was plagued with a legion of demons. A Roman legion numbered about 5,000 men, but regardless of the amount, this man was in trouble. Jesus healed him and sent him home to tell the story. It was a dramatic deliverance with an impactful ending- a soul saved and lots of dead swine! But isn’t it interesting that Jesus did not want the man to follow Him, just go home and tell. Jesus died and was raised to break the grip of satan in our lives. It’s powerful, it’s real, and it needs to be told- especially at home.
Lord, help us tell the story of Your deliverance in our lives, in Jesus’ name.
