"Light"
I once was this world’s darkness,
But now a child of light,
And when clothed in God’s armor,
His strength becomes my might.
The light, of course, is Jesus,
But He calls us light, too,
It’s all about His presence,
That then comes shining through.
Some people are attracted,
They come to find some hope,
Some run fast and far from it,
To light it’s nada, no way, nope.
Jesus said they’d run from Him,
And the reason is too clear,
He dispels the darkness,
That to them has grown dear.
Don’t fellowship with darkness,
Light seeks out the light,
Don’t let the dark deceive you,
Keep doing what is right.
And when the end approaches,
The world with darkness filled,
But even brighter is the light,
It can’t be quenched or killed.
That day of light is coming,
When all that’s dark is gone,
Don’t know the day or hour,
But seems it won’t be long.
The sons of light will have their day,
And heaven’s light will shine,
No need for the sun or moon,
His presence will do fine.
“For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light…” (Ephesians 5:8, NAS)
We are not what we used to be. We were darkness but now we are light in the Lord. Paul says, “walk as children of light.” When we do we are allowing the Lord to shine through us. He is the light of the world but calls us the light of the world, too. Jesus does not want us to hide our light but rather shine it out for people to see. This doesn’t mean we are doing good things to be recognized. It means we are living a Christian life that will impact others for God’s glory. They will see your good works, Jesus said, and glorify your Father in heaven. That’s exactly how it’s supposed to work when we walk as children of light. Keep shining!
Lord, shine Your light through us, in Jesus’name.
