"Back When"

Way back yonder, way back when,

“Fore God spoke worlds to be,

His love saw us lost and then,

He planned to set us free.

Before creation’s light first dawned,

Christ, the living Word,

The Lamb’s blood shed for sin so spawned,

The Good News since then heard.

Then time came for what God planned,

To save humanity,

Salvation all the ages spanned,

To heal our sickness, see.

And we the bearers of Good News,

Must never slow our pace,

With spirits willing, ne’er refuse,

To share the Savior’s grace.

So how can this be way back when,

And still, right now, be true,

As long as there’s a soul to win,

God does all He can do.

“He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love.” (Ephesians 1:4, NAS)

God has always known and loved us. We are created in His image and chosen in Christ to fellowship with Him forever. This is an eternal reality. How can God choose us when we know we must choose Him? It is one of the great spiritual mysteries. We know Jesus died for all, even those who reject His grace. We also know that when we embrace His salvation, He lets us know that His choice preceded ours- even to eternity past! Such love is immeasurable, yet we can experience it fully and share it wholeheartedly! Eternity past is joined with our souls in time and human history, but stretches into an eternal future with Him. Praise the Lord.

Lord, help us realize that You have always and will always love us, in Jesus’ name.
