"Promise"

I don’t know why it happens,

The tragedies unreal,

And I will never tell you,

I know just how you feel.

I know you won’t get over,

But I know you will get through,

And here and now I promise,

Just what I’ll do for you.

I’ll lift you up in prayer each day,

I’ll call to God your name,

I’ll pray for peace and comfort,

For me it’s not a game.

But prayer can make a difference,

The Bible tells us so,

In this I will not fail you,

I wanted you to know.

And if you need to talk sometime,

I’ll be a listening ear,

I will not judge, it’s not my place,

Just close by, standing near.

And if we need to get you out,

And get things off your mind,

I’ll help with that, I understand,

A distraction we will find.

Above all I’ll be loyal,

‘Cause you are my good friend,

And I love our partnership,

I’ll be with you to the end.

And when we’re crossing over,

Whichever one goes first,

On the other side a-waiting,

Where we all escape sin’s curse.

So let’s have cup of coffee,

While the sunset sh”ares its glow,

And remember what I’ve told you,

It’s what you already know.

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NLT)
The ancient writer saw the power of two people committed to helping each other. There is a reason God made marriage a union of two people. Jesus talked about the power of two or three gathered to agree prayer and claim His special presence. It may be that the basic cell of the body of Christ is exactly the same. All this to say that we are not called by God to be lone rangers. He is connecting us in spiritual partnership with one another. If you don’t have it, find it. If you do, value it.

Lord, help us to help one another, in Jesus’ name.
