"No Excuse"

Hate to admit the times I quit,

Too tired to follow through,

And looking back the strength I lack,

For what God said to do.

No excuse and it’s no use,

To say no way I could,

His energy, for you and me,

The Spirit says we should.

And that’s the key, always will be,

It’s Jesus shining through,

We can’t, God can, it is the plan,

With everything we do.

In jars of clay the treasure stays,

And then comes flowing out,

The Spirit’s power for every hour,

It’s what this life’s about.

“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” (2 Corinthians 4:7, NLT)

There is no question that the human soul has great latent power. People create all sorts of things and never give God credit. But the believer in Jesus has access to a much greater power that we hold, as Paul says, in earthen vessels or fragile clay jars. This is the great, transcendent power of the Holy Spirit which enable us to be consistent, overcoming witnesses. The Spirit causes the life of Christ to flow through us and touch the people and circumstances around us. We can’t, but He can.

Lord, empower us to do Your will, in Jesus’ name.
