"Real Connection"

We want a real connection,

When we try to ride a horse,

Not to dominate the steed,

Or impose your will by force.

Not to tire and wear him out,

So finally he yields,

But something that is deeper,

In touch with how he feels.

And don’t doubt he can feel it,

What you do and say,

Whether you are patient,

Or rushed along the way.

If he can feel a bug that stings,

Away back on his flank,

Though he may weigh a thousand pounds,

Take this to the bank,

He knows if you are angry,

Or if you are afraid,

He senses and he feels it,

It’s just the way he’s made.

And how he was created,

With fear that makes him flee,

And so if you intimidate,

He’ll run from you or me.

Give those gentle signals,

Until he starts to see,

That what you’re really asking for,

Is what he wants to be.

To overcome what scares him,

And build a trust that’s sure,

That with each new beginning,

Will strengthen and endure.

So you can call it training,

But maybe more than that,

A bonded true connection,

Before on him you sat.

And when that finally happens,

He’s looking for your clue,

To move the way you ask him,

It’s what he wants to do.

And I can feel a flowing,

Of spirit and of soul,

And I can sense a knowing,

Like God who makes us whole.

Things there in the Spirit,

The lesson that sets free,

The joy of being bonded,

It’s how things ought to be.

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him…” (Phil. 2:13, NLT)

Being with the Lord will change you. You realize that He’s at work in you. You become aware that there is something happening in you that is deeper than something you’re trying to do or accomplish. It’s more than trying to be a better person. It’s far beyond having a moral code. It’s realizing that His presence within you is transforming what you desire. You find yourself desiring spiritual things more and more. You become hungry spiritually, and you don’t wait for someone else to feed you. As you digest spiritual calories, you are energized to do things differently. He gives us both the desire and power to do what pleases HIm. It’s not bragging, except on Jesus. You realize you have both desire and power, and you know it’s all about His Holy Spirit. It’s more real that anything we can see. May we see more of it, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, give us the desire and power to do Your will, in Jesus’ name.
