"Saved"

Some folks think that they are good,

And sinners not at all,

Don’t see themselves the way they should,

Their salvation they forestall.

Because, you see, what Christ has done,

When He died upon the cross,

Suffered there for everyone,

To reconcile the lost.

And if we don’t admit our need,

Receive the grace by faith,

We will reap destructive seed,

And never will be safe.

Repentance is a change of mind,

Results in change of way,

Forgiveness of our sins we find,

And then we’ll gladly say,

I’m a sinner sav”ed by grace,

By the Spirit born again,

Jesus helps me run this race,

Forgave me of my sin.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, NAS)

You hear it all the time: “I’m a good person.” Rather than admit we are sinners in need of salvation, many insist that they are okay without it. These usually compare themselves to heinous “sinners” whom they consider to be much worse than they. But all have sinned, and all need salvation. The human condition of even the best of us falls short of God’s glory. That’s why Jesus died for all, and no one can boast that they were able to save themselves. It can’t be done, and that’s what makes the grace so amazing.

Lord, help us to admit our need and receive Your grace, in Jesus’ name.
