"So Far, So Good"

So far, so good, he used to say,

When we’d ease around the steers,

And it made me feel okay,

As a young kid with my fears.

Worried that I’d fail my chore,

Or not be in my place,

Like other times I had before,

Then felt like a disgrace.

Dad was pretty harsh, you see,

But the cowboys were my friends,

They saw how hard I tried to be,

The hand the cow boss sends,

To go and get the wild ones,

And by skill and savvy ride,

Especially one that outruns,

And always tries to hide.

And then they’d coach me up, you see,

To cowboy right and real,

I caught my share of those that flee,

It always made me feel,

That I was one of them and all,

A cowboy through and through,

The confidence to do it, y’all,

A-working with that crew.

When I look back upon those years,

They made me who I am,

Taught me how to face my fears,

And showed me that I can.

And when the Good Lord said to go,

Called me to preach His word,

So far, so good He let me know,

And that’s just what I heard.

To cowboy up for God right now,

Is all I want to do,

To gather wild ones is my vow,

And love the lost it’s true.

So far, so good, let’s get it done,

The harvest is at hand,

In Jesus’ name the war is won,

So let us take a stand.

“Now may the God of peace- who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with His blood - may He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever. Amen.” (Hebrews 13:20-21, NLT)

God is the author of peace and He releases it to all who receive His covenant. Bought by the blood of Jesus, we surrender to His will and trust Him to equip us to do it. It is through the power of Jesus Christ that we live a new, holy life energized by the Spirit of God. It is a life of fulfillment, confidence and joy. And it is absolutely available to everyone! And all because of Jesus! Amen.

Lord, help us embrace Your covenant and Your peace, in Jesus’ name.
