"Treasure"

The sun will set on things we get,

Can’t measure life that way,

But what we give and how we live,

Eternally holds sway.

The treasure of all that’s above,

Is where our hearts should be,

No moth or rust, or thievin’ bust,

Can damage it, you see.

The Kingdom first heals the worst,

Who wandered far away,

The treasure find, the transformed mind,

The pearl has come to stay.

All we possess means even less,

When measured by the cost,

Of knowing Jesus who’ll never leave us,

Though we were all once lost.

His endless grace and smiling face,

His Kingdom is within,

Righteous peace, and great release,

From all that did us in.

He said yes, I cannot guess,

How this can ever be,

But In the end, our Savior Friend,

Laid down His life for me.

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and wheere thieves break in and steal. Store us treasures in heaven…” (Matthew 6:19-20, NLT)

Eternal treasure is what this life’s investment is all about. Jesus pointed out the insecurity of earthly treasure and redirected our focus to heaven. This begins when we place our faith in Jesus to save us, and continues as we live by the power and leadership of the Holy Spirit. What is done for God’s glory has eternal significance and will be rewarded. Live that way.

Lord, help us to lay up treasure in heaven, in Jesus’ name.
