"Two or Three"
There are those the Good Lord sends us,
In a lifetime one or two,
Friends who will defend us,
And through everything stay true.
And these know your whole story,
The stumbles, falls, and fails,
All the details gory,
No heads and only tails.
But they love you anyway,
And will through thick and thin,
And can even laugh about it,
When you remember way back when.
They really care about you,
Enough to speak what’s true,
But never judge or doubt you,
Nor excuse what you should do.
And if you find these soul-mates,
You’ve really found a treasure,
They open heaven’s floodgates,
That only God can measure.
Just one or two or maybe three,
When we gather up He’s there,
The power when we all agree,
And go to Him in prayer.
And if you do not have ‘em yet,
It should go on your list,
Sincerely ask and I’ll just bet,
God gives you what you missed.
I have it with my pretty wife,
I have some God-sent friends,
Can’t say how much they’ve blessed my life,
And will until life ends.
So team up with those brothers,
And sisters, team up, too,
God makes us strong through others,
His will always to do.
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” (Matthew 18:20, NAS)
The Lord is always with us and has promised to never abandon us. But He promises His presence in a special way when two or three gather in His name. Why? I believe because this is the basic cell of the body of Christ, and the Holy Spirit intends for us to connect spiritually in the relationships He gives us. We love everyone, but we can only be close to a few. These “close” ones do not judge neither do they excuse us. Our agreement with them in prayer is powerful, and the support and accountability are life-changing. Apart from certain seasons when we might be called to walk alone, the normal Christian life is to be lived together with partners. Find them if you don’t have them. Cherish them if you do.
Lord, connect us, in Jesus’ name.
