"Unseen"
There’s always more than meets the eye,
More going on, you see,
Than what the optics will reveal,
A hidden mystery.
How can you know who you can trust,
And finally be sure,
That what you think is really true,
And what will long endure.
Some have thought believe no one,
Keep expectations low,
Then you won’t be disappointed,
Or maybe less, you know.
Skeptical and cynical,
Cautious to a fault,
All the time expect the worst,
If it’s risky call a halt.
But faith has risk or so I’m told,
If not, then what’s belief,
In what has not yet happened,
But surely brings relief.
Hope that’s sure will fuel a fire,
Igniting us to move,
And actions impact what results,
And that will clearly prove,
That what we want and hope and do,
All combine to show,
That at some point we roll the dice,
And take a chance, you know.
And if we lose then we can learn,
Next time a better run,
Discern with greater wisdom then,
To get the right things done.
And if the Spirit’s leading,
And His voice we can hear it,
Gives clearer view to the unseen,
And we don’t have to fear it.
Boldly live and laugh and love,
On purpose all the way,
With our Shepherd in the lead,
All the time and every day.
“For we live by believing and not by seeing.” (2 Corinthians 5:7, NLT)
Living by faith means that we take our cue, not primarily by what is physically, materially visible to us. But rather we are informed and directed by invisible, spiritual realities. Walking by faith and not by sight means that we are being led by the Holy Spirit and not our circumstances. This is only possible is we stay attentive and have a steady, healthy diet of scriptural truth. Then, when life’s challenges seek to intimidate us we rise to the occasion with confidence, knowing the Lord will see us through.
Lord, help us to walk by faith, and not by sight, in Jesus’ name.
