"Wish"
Suppose the wish they gave to you,
Was anything at all,
You’d have it just because you asked,
And nothing could forestall.
What do you think your wish would be,
Imagine if you can,
What one thing would you request,
And what would be your plan.
Wealth and riches come to mind,
And the power that they bring,
Position, prestige, leadership,
To control so many things.
One time we know the Good Lord,
Said ask what you want from Me,
And I will give you anything,
Your heart desire, you see.
And David’s son, the king to be,
Said wisdom’s what I need,
Lord, I’ll be satisfied with that,
‘Cause without it I can’t lead.
And God was pleased with that request,
And said he would be wise,
But all the rest He’d also give,
Meaning every single prize.
Perhaps this is the lesson,
When we go to God in prayer,
Above all else that we request,
That His wisdom He will share.
And then if we get blessing,
We’ll handle it just right,
And if we have to go without,
We won’t be so uptight.
And God has said what He will do,
More that we think or ask,
According to His power within,
And joy for every task.
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.” (Ephesians 3:20, NAS)
Paul praises the Lord for His magnificent ability to give us more than we can possibly think or even imagine. That’s amazing, don’t you think? God wants to bless us in immeasurable ways and our faith positions us to receive His great provision and blessing. All this is directly and very personally connected to the internal work of the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit who leads us from situation to situation, and imparts to us both the wisdom and strength we need to accomplish God’s highest and best for us. it’s life’s greatest adventure and our hope’s greatest anticipation. What will the Lord do next?! Hallelujah.
Lord, teach us to live expectantly, in Jesus’ name.
