"Word of God"

So you look at the situation,

And nothing but desperation,

No hope except the Word of God is true.

It cuts to bone and marrow,

Leads to the straight and narrow,

When chips are down tells us what to do.

Some still don’t believe it,

And no, they won’t receive it,

But everyone who does will tell you this,

That if you only try it,

You never will deny it,

Always true and never known to miss.

Jesus said it plainly,

He meant it very sanely,

The truth and truth alone will set you free.

And if we’ll only do it,

The Spirit will see to it,

Free indeed is what we’ll always be.

The devil’s a deceiver,

But every true believer,

Can use the Word and every battle win.

Jesus quoted scripture,

I think we get the picture,

And now’s the time we really should begin,

To say yes to the Spirit,

Embrace the Word and hear it,

Let it show us how to live what’s true.

The Spirit helps apply it,

We only have to try it,

God’s Word will show us all that we must do.

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NAS)

The Bible contains the living, inspired Word of God. The Holy Spirit will take what the Bible says and speak it to our hearts. He becomes our personal teacher, which is incredibly special because He inspired it. He will instruct and empower us to apply the truth of what the Bible says to our everyday lives. It’s not enough to simply know what the scriptures say. There are many who have that knowledge, but their lives show that they are not spiritually free. The “knowing” that Jesus described happens when the truth is digested and fully lived out. Then comes extraordinary freedom.

Lord, help us receive and live out Your word, in Jesus’ name.
