"Blessing"

Longing, lifelong longing,

Tied to our belonging,

The deepest human need and heart’s desire,

The greatest just to be blessed,

Relief for all the distressed,

We search to fill the vacuum till we tire.

Boys want it from their fathers,

Though some won’t even bother,

They cannot give what they have never known,

The same thing for their sisters,

Seeking favor from the misters,

And some so far long after they are grown.

They say accepting you’re accepted,

Defines grace unexpected,

But getting there is all about belief,

When you know down in your knower,

That God has been the sower,

Of all the seeds that ever gave relief.

God’s love without measure,

A life-changing treasure,

And only Jesus Christ can make it so.

So turn from all the stressing,

It’s always been the blessing,

And now the Holy Spirit lets you know.

“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” (Romans 8:15-16, NLT)

One of the most challenging things for some people is to accept that God has accepted them. If they received a strong, positive blessing from their parents it gives them a big head-start. But not everyone has this advantage. Some are severely handicapped in this regard, but no matter. God’s grace can overcome all feeling of abandonment, neglect and abuse. The Holy Spirit gives us the full assurance that we are loved by God and are forever adopted into His family. It’s something to receive and enjoy.

Lord, help us know for certain that we belong to You, in Jesus’ name.
