"Spirit-led Sons"

I don’t always know the way,

Or understand the words to say,

Not even how I ought to pray,

But God knows that I try.

And by the Spirit says He’ll show,

The very way that we should go,

Clearly wants us all to know,

God’s Word He’ll help apply.

Sometimes just a certain verse,

Charts the course to miss the worst,

Gain the blessing, dodge the curse,

The Bible makes it plain.

But often we need more than that,

The Spirit’s help to trim the fat,

And equip us for some real combat,

And keep the main things main.

Led by the Spirit, sons we are,

God has brought us very far,

Delivered from all things bizarre,

To all the Kingdom show.

The Spirit and the Truth are ours,

Guiding all our waking hours,

The Spirit’s fruit upon us showers,

We reap all that we sow.

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” (Romans 8:14, NLT)

Believers in Jesus Christ embrace a whole new leadership in their lives. They are personally guided by the Holy Spirit. Those who view this suspiciously insist that we are led by the words of scripture. We absolutely must live our lives according to what the Bible teaches, but it is by the guidance of the Holy Spirit that we learn how to apply the scriptures to everyday life and learn God’s timing. Our counsel is taken from both Spirit and Truth, and we worship accordingly. We will never be led to do somethng that is unscriptural, but we can never live scripturally without the Spirit’s help.

Lord, lead us, in Jesus’ name.
