"Gospel According to Rudolph"
Gene Autry made the record,
Back in nineteen forty-nine,
I was born in ’52,
And thought it sounded fine.
On a lil old record player,
I kept beside my bed,
Dropped the needle on that forty-five,
And heard all that it said.
About that reindeer Rudolph,
With a shiny, bright red nose,
Rejected by the others,
They even said it glows.
But then came a foggy Christmas Eve,
When Santa came to say,
Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won’t you guide my sleigh.
I find there a parable,
About God’s Son who came,
To lead us out of darkness,
And Jesus was His name.
‘Cause He, too, was rejected,
Despised and crucified,
Thankfully was raised again,
When once for all He died.
And the Stone that was rejected,
Became the Cornerstone,
Of the building God’s constructing,
For to make us all His own.
So the Gospel per old Rudolph,
It’s as true as true can be,
And in God’s coming Kingdom,
The last are first you see.
Just a song by an old cowboy,
Played since I was a kid,
But God gives His reminders,
And, yes, it’s what He did.
“Then Jesus asked them, ‘Didn’t you ever read in the Scriptures? The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.’” (Matthew 22:42, NLT)
The Christmas story is the unlikely account of God choosing the unremarkable to accomplish something that is eternally magnificent. Jesus was the prophetic stone that the builders rejected, yet God uses Him to lay the foundation for everything that is good and right. His birth, life, death and resurrection all point us to the time when He will return and the Kingdom is established for all to see. From a trough to triumph, from nothing to everything, from the least to the greatest- and all because of God’s great love. Merry Christmas!
Lord, help us share the joy of Christmas, in Jesus’ name.
