"Highway of Holiness"

We read there is a holy way,

And only those washed clean,

Can travel there and never stray,

If you know what I mean.

No one can enter by mistake,

There’s one Gate-keeper, see,

Only those by faith He’ll take,

Admission then is free.

Given as a loving gift,

Paid by deadly sacrifice,

To those who will repent and lift,

Their hearts to pay the price,

Of following the One who died,

And rose to show the way,

His promise to be there beside,

And lead us day by day.

The highway then of holiness,

Calls all of us to come,

Humble down in lowliness,

No matter where we’re from.

And there we find the Spirit’s power,

To energize our walk,

The anointing of the sacred shower,

To heal our every balk.

And this then is the way we find,

That leads us safely home,

Transformed by a renewed mind,

And led no more to roam.

“And a great road will go through that once-deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel on it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools can never walk there.” (Isaiah 35:8, NLT)

The Old Testament prophet Isaiah envisioned a great highway of holiness used by the people of God to return to their earthly home in Jerusalem. But the spiritual parallel is overwhelmingly clear. Jesus came to show the way and be the way. All those who repent and follow Him are transformed and placed on what Jesus called the “narrow way.” it is the way of holiness that leads us home to heaven. Hallelujah.

Lord, help us to walk the narrow way of holiness, in Jesus’ name.
