"Overcome"

What discouraged and depressed us,

Changed when the Spirit blessed us,

All that once distressed us,

He helps us overcome.

The joy of our escaping,

To close the wounds once gaping,

Embrace the Spirit’s shaping,

He’s there for all, not some.

Sometimes hard to believe it,

Until you do receive it,

And have Him come relieve it,

The miracle is real.

He lives His life right through us,

And nothing can undo us,

Before time’s start He knew us,

And the Spirit you can feel.

He changes expectation,

Conquers all temptation,

Lays love’s strong foundation,

Abundant life is here.

Adventures without measure,

Eternity the treasure,

And all to bring Him pleasure,

The God who’s always near.

“Every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 John 5:4-5, NLT)

This is he victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. The world and all its evil threatens and tries to intimidate us. But the Holy Spirit rises within us empowering us to live for Jesus. He lives through us as we learn to die to ourselves. The super-abundant life happens when we no longer try to live the Christian life under our own willpower and self-effort but by the Spirit’s anointing. When the devil knocks ask Jesus to answer the door!

Lord, help us to overcome by the Spirit’s power, in Jesus name.
