"Runaway"
Just how far will that horse run,
He’ll go and never slow,
Till his legs tire outside the wire,
And he’s through with his fun.
Reckon how that horse got loose,
His buck sure gave him luck,
The lead rope broke, that’s all she wrote,
And that was his excuse.
He’s got a wild streak, that one,
Could gentle yet and will I bet,
Find his place with cowboy pace,
And make a horse, old son.
So who’ll go get that runner,
The game twill be to tame,
To cowboy up and try your luck,
If it takes all summer.
And sure enough he rode him,
The best of all the rest,
When in need, gives all the speed,
The cattle to bring in.
Some who run so far away,
The Good Lord knows and goes,
To bring ‘em back to get on track,
And then to show the way.
Use that runaway to bring,
Those who run for fun,
Sees their worth, gives second birth,
It just beats everything.
“For in Him we live and move and exist, even as some of your poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’” (Acts 17:28, NAS)
When Paul preached in Athens he wanted them to know that the true and living God was not distant but was as close as the air they breathed. Though they might run from Him Paul wanted them to know that God was always there and if they turned to Him they would find Him through Jesus Christ. The Athenians laughed at Paul and as far as we know Paul was unable to plant a church in Athens. But it’s no laughing matter. We can run but we can never hide from Him. In Him we live and move and have our being. The question is will we run to Him or from Him?
Lord, help us cooperate with Your grace, in Jesus’ name.
