"Texas"
Plumb back to the Alamo,
Folks from Alabam, you know,
Traveling west they chose to go,
Texas became home.
Travis with the others there,
Drew a line to fight and dare,
To sacrifice, their courage share,
Way down in San Antone.
That fight didn’t end so well,
Because nobody lived to tell,
We just know they fought and fell,
For freedom’s future fate.
But Santa Ana met his match,
Old Houston would the general catch,
Those invaders to dispatch,
And open wide the Lone Star state.
I finally got to Texas sure,
After loss to long endure,
In Parker County found my cure,
And so glad I came.
Adopted son of Texas now,
Pastures full of horse and cow,
The Good Lord brought me here somehow,
So He’s the One to blame.
I still love old Alabam,
Because she made me who I am,
But I’m in a new program,
And cowboy all the way.
This Texas way agrees with me,
Down by the Brazos I will be,
Until my dying breath I see,
That’s all I’ve got to say.
“If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” (Hebrews 11:15-16, NLT)
Most of us have an earthly place with which we feel connection. I feel that way about Alabama and Texas. But ultimately, because of Jesus, my true home is heaven. And the best thing about heaven will not be what is there, but who. Yes, Jesus is preparing a place for us. He made the promise and what He promised will come true. But the place is special because He is there, along with all who love Him. He is not ashamed to be called our God and to give us what He has prepared. Hallelujah.
Lord, help us be prepared for what You have prepared for us, in Jesus’ name.
