"Time Flies"

Often time goes flying by,

We blink and there it goes,

Remembering will make us sigh,

As any old cowboy knows.

We take the pics and video,

To capture and hold on,

To people, places, times you know,

Because so soon they’re gone.

Once was young but older now,

And hurt at end of day,

Can’t let the old man in somehow,

His weariness delay.

But each day comes with quiet light,

To give to us its gift,

And we must ry to get it right,

Our hearts and hands to lift,

In praise to God above who cares,

To bless our lives with peace,

His presence with us freely shares,

And burdens to release.

This life with all its glory,

Gives way to eternity,

It’s all about God’s story,

And our own destiny.

When all of time is ended,

And righteousness rains down,

This life is transcended,

By heaven’s holy sound,

Of human voices praising,

And every knee is bowed,

Holiness a-blazing,

And from every tribe a crowd.

So fly, time, fly forever,

‘Cause Christ is Lord of time,

And we’ll deny Him never,

His blessing is sublime.

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12, NLT)

God is eternal and transcends our understanding of time as it unfolds in a linear way. We can only experience it in terms of past, present or future. Whereas God interacts in this dimension, He is also outside it and unlimited by it. The brief moment in the span of our lives is scarcely a drop in eternity’s ocean. Yet what we do in time affects our eternal destiny and reward. Teach us, Lord, to appreciate life’s brevity and become wise. Wisdom requires an eternal view.

Lord, teach us to number our days, in Jesus’ name.
