"Wasted"

Hey, don’t waste that good pony,

Give him a job to do,

And you’ll find things go better,

Every cowboy knows it’s true.

Go ride him ‘round the cattle,

On the sick ones cast your twine,

Doctor in the pasture,

Teach him to be on time.

Or even in the ropin’ pen,

Or in the stockyard alley,

Open gates and close ‘em,

And you’ll find you can tally,

The progress that your mount will make,

Just making blankets wet,

And if you don’t you’ll see, ol’ pard,

What you get is what you get.

I’ve seen good men wasted,

Missed what they’re meant to do,

Never really comes about,

Because they never knew,

The One who gives ‘em purpose,

And says what life’s about,

The One I mean is Jesus,

Of that there is no doubt.

And no matter the endeavor,

If we don’t live for Him,

Life itself is meaningless,

And that’s a downright sin.

So come on, saddle up, pard,

And get your life in gear,

‘Cause Jesus Christ is calling,

And your destiny is near.

Don’t waste another minute,

Get it right and get it done,

The best is out there waiting,

For the glory of the Son.

“Then I heard the Lord asking, ‘Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us? I said, ‘Here I am. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8, NLT)

When we don’t make ourselves available to the Lord we miss His purpose for our lives. But it never has to be! We, like Isaiah, can hear the Lord’s call. “Who will go for us?” He is still asking that question, and every believer in Jesus Christ will answer by saying “Here I am, send me!” It is only when we are sent by the Lord into His plan for us that we truly discover the abundant life we’ve always wanted. But it can never be on our terms, only His. His plan is the ultimate answer to life’s biggest questions, and our relationship with Him makes it possible. Waste it not.

Lord, help us to hear Your call and follow, in Jesus’ name.
